Book Recommendations for Japanese Books

Yay, congratulations on finishing your first Japanese book! Hope you will read many more.

I think this (in a double volume with サンクチュアリ) was actually the first full length Japanese book I read; I agree about the difficulty level and that it's a good one to start with.

Interestingly, in the afterword at the back of the book the author says something to the effect that looking back she doesn't think these two stories were really written in her own style, so she's not sure she likes them... (I'm paraphrasing from memory as I don't have the book to hand.)

If you like Yoshimoto Banana I think my favourite of those I've read so far is キッチン: it's a bit longer than うたかた but not otherwise any more difficult a read.

Oh, since I have the opening paragraph of うたかた already typed in from a blog post I wrote ages ago about reading Japanese, here it is:

You were meant to blog. It has inspired me to start my own blog on barrie dentist
